Pterocarpus indicus - from the East Indies. Don't ask me why, but when this wood is burled,
it's called Amboyna Burl. This is the same tree, with the same properties as Amboyna -
scent, richness, colors, etc. The heartwood can vary in color from lighter orange shades
up through darker red colors, with contrasting golden color sap wood. I've seen pictures
of huge Narra trees used as pilings for houses in the Phillipines. The curly Narra really
finishes up nicely and makes a beautiful turning.
Not a great picture, but it
does show some of the curl.
These squares have been
waxed and with the adjusted
color, they show a little
darker than they really are in
the raw. They will darken
with an oil finish.
A - 3" x 3" x 12.5" with beautiful
contrasting coloring. $40.00
B - 3.5" x 3.5" x 9.5", good curl
(despite the glare). $32.00
SOLD!
3.5" x 3.5" x 18" - good size for
a pepper mill and salt shaker
combination, or a groupd of
small hollows or boxes, or
decorative collars - beautiful
wood to work with. This piece
is $60.00
Look past the glare and see the curl in
both of these. (I have got to get a
better set-up at the warehouse to take
these pictures :( These are both 3.75"
square x 12.5" tall and are priced at
$48.00 each. A (left) and B.
I know, I know, crummy picture. I'm
working on it. In the mean time, this
has been the most popular size I have
had in Curly Narra - 6" x 6" x 4" deep,
and it's the last one I have after
coming back from the Southern States
Symposium. $34.00
